Abstract:
Based on the results of material composition and depositional environment study of the surface sediment formations, the authors have defined distribution area and lithological facies of the surface sediment formations with the age from Late Pleistocene - Holocene in the Ninh Binh area. Our study results shower that the sediments with the age from Late Pleistocene mainly consist of the coastal delta flains sandy mud facies motled by weathering; The Early - Middle Holocene sediments include peat-bearing coastal marsh mudy facies and bay greyish green clay facies; The Late Holocene sediments consist of typical facies: River sandy silt accretion facies, delta sandy silt facies, marshitised delta mudy facies, remnant river mouth sand bar demonstrating their typical characteristics in sedimentary facies. The sediments in studied area are mainly sand, sandy silt, sandy mud, mud, clays, which are intercalated (coarse - fine graineds) each another. The sediments fed to the area have mostly been supplied from distal sources by the Day and Red River
