Abstract:

Solid waste is one of the environmental challenges of the world. Landfilling is a popular disposal method in developing countries due to its implementation method and reasonable construction costs. However, choosing a landfill for waste disposal is still a complex problem involving many factors and regulations. This study proposes a model for selecting solid waste landfill locations for Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen province, based on geospatial data, GIS, and fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making method (Fuzzy-MCDM). Four groups of factors were selected, including economic group (EC), environmental group (EN), topographical group (TO), and social group (SO). Expert opinions and secondary documents are used to evaluate and select criteria within factor groups. All criteria of the factor groups are classified into five appropriate levels to build an appropriate zoning map of urban solid waste landfill locations. The results show that 19.8% of the total land area could be classified as very suitable and suitable for building landfills with spatial distribution in the northwest of Tuy Hoa City. The study also highlights the reconstruction of the current landfill, which causes a significant nuisance in terms of air, water, and soil pollution, seriously affecting the health of city residents and surrounding areas.
