Determination of the sea level anomalies in the East sea from altimetry data

Abstract:
Sea level anomaly (SLA) is a difference between the observed sea surface height (SSH) and the mean sea surface (MSS). The SLA allows us to monitor ocean variability due to seasonal variations and climatic phenomena such as El Nino. The model of the MSS and the observed sea surface height are used to compute the SLAs. Locations of the observed sea surface are not coincided with the grids of the MSS model. Thus, the MSS at the locations of the observed sea surface are interpolated from the MSS models. The interpolations are realized by method, called the Collocation. The experimental computations are realized in the East Sea with the data of the SARAL/ALTIKA satellite in the 18st cycle. The DTU13MSS model also is used for computation. The results of the experimental computation show that the SLA in the East Sea varies from -1.581m to 0.649m and the value of mean is 0.108m.
